“Never be deceived that the rich will allow you to vote away their wealth.”
— Lucy Parsons (Lucy Parsons: Freedom, Equality & Solidarity – Writings & Speeches, 1878-1937)
A timely quote as the gap between the rich and poor grows evermore in the 21st century. Lucy Parsons was a radical labor organizer, writer, firebrand, seamstress, and wife of martyred anarchist Albert Parsons. She tirelessly wrote and spoke out on behalf of the oppressed. She was a woman of color working in the immigrant communities of Chicago and although she was secretive about her background, it is possible that in her youth she escaped from slavery in Texas.
